Fergusson visited Montgeron in the summers of 1908 and 1909.

This painting is from his first stay at Montgeron. The picture is high key with a certain paring down of geometric element. The 1907 Cezanne Retrospective had an impact on Fergusson. However, this painting shows Fergusson's confirming admiration for his earlier Impressionist heroes.
