Kirsty Wither Christmas Show 2020

Kirsty Wither Christmas Show 2020 - 7 December to 23 November 2020

Kirsty is an artist we have long since admired, a contemporary colourist who paints rich and joyful still life and landscapes with lavishly applied layers of paint, creating works that are almost sculptural in feel.

Since graduating from Gray's School of Art, in Aberdeen (1986 - 1990), she has been painting full-time and now works from her studio in Brighton.  Her work has featured in more than 30 solo shows at galleries in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh and continues to be much sought after.

All works are available for purchase prior to the opening of the exhibition.  If you wish to reserve or purchase a painting please contact us on 020 7839 8806 or alternatively click on the painting you are interested in and 'Enquire about this item'.

Judith Bridgland Exhibition

Judith Bridgland Exhibition - 14 February to 10 March 2020

The raw beauty and variety of Scotland's scenery, from East to West, is the focus of Judith Bridgland's 14th solo show with our gallery.

In this exhibition Judith takes us on a journey from the beautiful beaches of East Lothian with the distinctive Bass Rock, across the patterned fields of Aberdeenshire, to the rugged West coastline and the magical islands of Lewis, Harris and Skye.  Executed with her characteristic use of bold colours and vigorous application of thick paint, Judith encourages the viewer to not simply view the landscape, but to experience its energy and vitality.

All works are available for purchase prior to the opening of the exhibition.  If you wish to reserve or purchase a painting please contact us on 020 7839 8806 or alternatively click on the painting you are interested in and 'Enquire about this item'.

Bernard Dunstan | Contemporary Show

Bernard Dunstan | Contemporary Show - 23 November to 21 December 2017

At the time of his death, aged 97, Dunstan was the Royal Academy's longest serving member, having been elected Associate in 1959 and full member in 1968.  An admirer of Bonnard, Vuillard and Sickert, he was well-known for his intimate domestic interiors of nudes, his views of Venice and his paintings of orchestras, which he exhibited at the Royal Academy and the New English Art Club for over 60 years.

His continued passion and energy for painting over the years was in no doubt attributable to his lifelong partnership with fellow artist, Diana Armfield, whom he first met at the Slade School of Fine Art in the early 1940s, later marrying in 1949.  Together they worked alongside one another for more than 60 years from their homes in Kew and North Wales and on their many trips to France and Italy.

Whereas Diana concentrated on landscapes and still life, the figure was paramount for Dunstan, and in particular nudes: "Figure painting still seems to me to present quite unlimited scope.  If some mad minister of art decreed that I could only paint one subject for the rest of my life I would be perfectly happy doing nothing but nudes....I am quite happy with Ruskin's dictum 'Paint what you love and love what you paint.'

This exhibition is devoted to Dunstan's smaller works from the early 1960s to 1990s.

Judith Bridgland Exhibition 2017

Judith Bridgland Exhibition 2017 - 9 February to 3 March 2017

We are delighted to be holding this, our 11th, exhibition of Judith Bridgland's work, comprising of 40 paintings from Judith's travels over the past year.

 Force of Nature

"Nature and its elemental forces are everywhere.  Even in the most urban of landscapes, nature is present, bringing colour and vitality, seasonal change, and the rhythm of the tides.

In exploring this theme I have looked at water in all its moods.  Rivers and canals fill cities and villages with a pulse of powerful, organic life.  From the banks of the Thames where the river is wide and slow, to the rushing torrents of the spectacular Falls of Dochart, to the quiet reflections of the acqua alta in Venice.  Meanwhile, the ever-changing seas of Cornwall or Scotland have a life and character of their own, and hold a never-ending fascination.

A good exhibition should take you on a journey, tell you a story.  This is therefore the story of another year of my travelling, observing, recording, note-taking, and remembering.  It is a story about what it is to be a Scottish painter, and to be the force that brings all these elements together".     Judith I Bridgland
