This present work was first commissioned in 1989 as the Charles Chaplin Award for the Edinburgh Film Festival. The Award was inaugurated by Lady Oona Chaplin to commemorate the centenary of Chaplin's birth, to be present to an outstanding new film maker. It was awarded three times to the directors Shajji (India), Kaizon Hayashi (Japan) and Jozset Pacskovski (Hungary). This present fourth cast was commissioned for presentation to the retiring Festival director, David Robinson, in 1991 and is the final cast.
