Stanley Grimm R.O.I., R.P. (1891-1966)

'Girl Pat' on the Thames

Stanley Grimm was born in London in 1891, a descendant of the brothers Grimm of fairy tale renown. Orphaned at an early age, he was brought to Russia and brought up in Riga by his fathers' family. In 1911 he attended the Knirr Atelier in Munich at the beginning of the Blaue Reiter period, which was manifestly a strong influence. After many adventures, including an escape in a smugglers fishing boat, he settled in England at the end of the first war and lived and painted here until his death.

Grimm had one man shows at the Redfern Gallery in 1925, Beaux Arts in 1927, Bloomsbury Gallery in 1930 and the Wertheim Gallery in 1932. His works are held in public and private collections nationally and internationally.
