Nicola Godden MRSS

Bone Form III

Nicola studied at West Surrey College of Art, where she gained an Honours degree in Fine Art.  A sculptor for over 30 years she works in clay and plaster, which is mostly cast in bronze.

Her work is nearly always based on the human figure, whether created in an abstract or realistic way.  Her sources of inspiration can be natural objects she has encountered whilst out walking or travelling - such as the piece of flint resembling a female torso that inspired her “Eve” and “Torse” series. Her most recent series of work was inspired by the mythological figure of Icarus and flight.

Over the years she has worked on many site specific public works including a sculpture of Sir Peter Scott for London Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre and ‘Hammersmith man’ for the Hammersmith flyover.  In 2012 she exhibited a life-sized bronze “Icarus I” at the Olympic Village in 2012, which later sold at Sothebys.   Her work is mainly held in many private collections in the UK, Channel Islands, Ireland and America.

She was elected a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors in 1993.
