Jack Knox was born in Kirkintilloch in 1936 and studied at the Glasgow School of Art (1953- 1957). He subsequently studied in Paris under Andre Lhote (1958-59). In 1965 he became a lecturer in Drawing and Painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee and later Head of Painting at Glasgow School of Art in 1981.
His style has moved from an abstract expressionism to more representational Still Lifes somewhat reminiscent of the work of Patrick Caulfield.
His work has been widely exhibited and he has won numerous awards including the Maude Gemmel Hutchison Prize, RSA (1998). He was elected R.S.A. in 1979 and more recently was awarded an Honorary degree from Glasgow university.
