James Stuart Park (1862-1933)

Assorted Roses on a Table

Born in Kidderminster, Park studied art in Glasgow and then in Paris under Lefebvre, Boulanger and Cormon. He worked in Glasgow until 1896 and was associated with The Glasgow Boys. He later moved to Kilmarnock where he lived for many years.

Park was unusual the Glasgow Boys in producing only Still Lifes, but his flower studies with their dark backgrounds and creamily textured petals were consistently popular among collectors.

Exhibited at the R.S.A, G.I. and elsewhere in Scotland and is represented in several public collections.
